On January 16, 2020, Dr. Banks released a memorandum[1] requiring Engineering IT (EIT) to manage all TEES and College of Engineering information resources. The memo intends to support EIT’s efforts to reduce risk across TEES and the College.
Engineering IT has worked diligently to establish an initial baseline of management across our information resources. The baseline requires working with you and your staff to do the following:
- Identify your information resources
- Determine how the endpoint is used
- Install our endpoint security software
- Install our asset management software
- Ensure your computers are using NetID authentication
- Ensure your laptops are encrypted
Why We Need Central Management
- Reduce risk to TEES/CoE
- Ensure we protect our research and researchers from cyber threats
- Lower the total cost of IT management by implementing enterprise IT management standards
Exceptions
- In the event where a security control causes technical problems and disrupts the ability to conduct research, an exception request may be submitted.
- EIT will submit a security exception request for situations where a security control will cause technical problems with the endpoint.
- Security exceptions will be considered if the technical problem is evident, well documented, and EIT can not implement a workaround.
- Security exceptions will be approved by the Dean and/or the Information Security Officer.
